Since its founding in 2001, Friends of Guinea has sought to be a channel of communication and friendship for Guinean citizens, Peace Corps Volunteers, and other admirers of this beautiful West African country.
In addition to our communication work including our website, social media presence, and quarterly newsletter, FOG supports various development and humanitarian projects in Guinea. Highlights of our efforts include:
- Partnership with the National Peace Corps Association (NPCA), Friends of Sierra Leone, and Friends of Liberia on the NPCA Ebola Relief Fund – which raised $91,000 to fund 30 grants to community-based organizations in Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia, helping close to 300,000 people.
- Promotion of literacy through providing donations to Books for Africa and Partage Quebec-Guinee to ship books to Guinea.
- Support of the RPVC-founded non-profit Dare to Innovate, which provides training and assistance to young entrepreneurs with creative and inspiring ideas to promote social growth and change in Guinea.
- Funding of projects led by Peace Corps Volunteers in Guinea – most notably Gender Conferences, which provide leadership skills training to Guinean teenagers.
